Overview

CaptionPair (“we”, “us”) provides bilingual subtitle tools for YouTube through a Chrome extension and web dashboard. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how we share it.

Subtitle text and translation

CaptionPair does not download, store, or redistribute YouTube video files or audio streams.

When you enable translation on a YouTube watch page, the extension reads publicly available caption text (timed text) for that video. Selected subtitle segments are sent to our API and then to a third-party machine-translation provider solely to produce translations shown in the overlay or export files.

We send caption text and language metadata needed for translation. We do not send the video itself, your YouTube watch history as a bulk export, or payment card details to the translation provider.

Translated segments may be cached briefly on your device and in our systems to improve performance and enforce usage limits. Export files you request are stored for a limited retention period described in your plan.

Account and billing data

If you create an account, we process your email address, authentication credentials (hashed passwords or OAuth identifiers), subscription plan, device identifiers used for quota enforcement, and preferences such as target language and subtitle styling.

Paid subscriptions are processed by Creem. We receive subscription status and billing period metadata from Creem; we do not store full card numbers on our servers.

Diagnostics and telemetry

The extension may send anonymized diagnostic events (for example, caption detection outcomes or first successful bilingual display) with a hashed video identifier—not the raw video ID in logs intended for operators—and your client version. These events help us maintain reliability and are not used for advertising.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information.

• Translation vendors: subtitle text segments for the purpose of translation only, under contractual confidentiality and data-processing terms.
• Infrastructure providers: hosting, databases, object storage, and monitoring needed to operate the service.
• Creem: payment processing for paid plans.
• Legal requirements: when required by applicable law or to protect rights, safety, and integrity of the service.

Retention and deletion

We retain account data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward unless you request deletion from Settings.

When you delete your account, we remove your profile, preferences, sessions, export metadata, quota counters, and object-storage export files from active systems without undue delay.

Encrypted database backups and CDN caches may retain deleted data for up to 30 days before automatic purge — our SLA for complete erasure from all backup tiers.

Export job metadata and files follow plan-specific retention (for example, 30 days of export history on Creator) while your account is active.

Your choices

You can stop using the extension at any time, sign out, or uninstall it to remove locally stored tokens and caches.
