Fair Use Policy

Last updated: June 4, 2026

Unlimited translation on paid plans is subject to reasonable use limits that protect service quality for all learners.

Why fair use exists

Pro and Creator plans include “unlimited” translation sessions so daily learners are not blocked by small quotas. To keep latency and cost sustainable for everyone, we apply automated fair-use guardrails against extreme or automated usage.

Current soft limits

These limits are soft thresholds. Brief spikes during normal study sessions are expected; sustained automation or scraping may trigger throttling, temporary pauses, or account review.

  • Approximately 500 translated subtitle segments per rolling hour per account on paid plans (subject to adjustment with notice).
  • Reasonable export frequency per plan tier (Free: no export; Pro: monthly export cap; Creator: unlimited exports with abuse monitoring).
  • Standard API rate limits and device-level quota rules on the Free tier.

What we do not do

Fair use policies do not grant permission to download video. CaptionPair never downloads YouTube video or audio streams; only caption text is processed for translation.

Enforcement

If your usage pattern threatens service stability, we may rate-limit requests, require plan changes, or contact you before taking further action. Repeated abuse may result in suspension under the Terms of Service.
